Petz With a Side of Sim was created and thought up by myself, Icciotto.
After being in the veterinary field in real life for quite some time, and always being intrigued by practicing medicine, I wanted to give one of my most favorite hobbies a realistic touch: petz.
You could think of Petz With a Side of Sim (PSOS for short a.k.a. "petz [with a] side of sim") as a game in and of itself that includes our furry, virtual friends!
There is a lot of uniqueness to offer at PSOS, as you could already probably tell by looking at the boards and categories. This is not by any means your typical petz forum. Some key points are listed below (and guidelines).
[x] Petz can get ill as in real life with real life diseases/sickness
[x] Petz can get internal parasites, external parasites, and catch things from other petz that aren't vaccinated
[x] Petz can die from unknown causes, voluntary euthanasia, sickness, natural causes and accidents
[x] VERY IMPORTANT: Time is different here at PSOS than it is in the real world. For every real life 1 calendar month = 1 year in PSOS time. So, example being: My Chihuahua, Mini's, birthday is 4/30/14, so in PSOS time she is 3 months and 2 days old as of today 5/9/2014. So, recap: 1 real life month = 1 year PSOS time, therefore, 1 real life week = 3 months PSOS time
[x] A lot of PSOS' events are random. Random events can only befall another member's petz if they are in the list of the member's "approved PSOS petz" so there is no issues if that pet is found out to have, say, an untreatable disease that the owner must them make the choice of making the pet comfortable or euthanizing the pet. Random events are only issues by staff members at the moment
[x] ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT DETAIL: Death does happen here at PSOS - hence the realistic feel to the game here - if you are uncomfortable with that, please remember that although realistic, this is still a game and nothing is to be taken personally! Please also keep in mind that you do not have to involve your whole crew of petz on this forum! You most certainly can if you'd like to, however, know that you can pick anywhere from just one pet to play with realistically here or 20, it is up to you.
[x] All members of course should treat other people with respect, there is no need to elaborate here, we all know basic manners, so please, use them!
[x] Double posting, large signatures, lots of text in signatures, avatar sizes...all allowed, just please be smart about it. No inappropriate pictures/words. No spamming with double posting; it is fine if you are bumping a topic or updating something after you posted something else - as long as it has meaning, it is fine! If this rule turns out to be something that has to be elaborated on, it will be...as of right now though I'd rather you all be able to make this place as yours as possible!
[x] This forum is made for catz and dogz only (original and hexed breeds ARE allowed - wolf mixies or hybrids also allowed). Just no other wild or exotic animals.
[x] It is optional as to whether or not you want to raise your petz naturally or not (without the use of petza). Without the use of petza is defined as only using petza to bring more than two petz out at any given time during the game or for some other reason not related to the altering of a petz' stats in the game or pregnancies/breedings
[x] A money system is involved here. You will use your money to do many things, including by not limited to:
- purchasing puppies or kittens from other players
- using as award money for people winning your shows or competitions
- donating to other players as a gift
- paying entrance fees for competitions and shows
- paying your vet bills
- purchasing items
[x] You can earn money too; gotta earn it to spend it! There are a few ways to earn money, including but not limited to:
- every new thread you make, you receive $10
- every reply you give to a thread (quick reply or full reply), you receive $5
- every poll you make, you receive $5
- random events, you will receive a random amount
- by generous fellow members who donate to you
- by winning shows and competitions with your pets
- by selling puppies and kittens
- you get daily wages of a set amount just for being active, the more posts you have, the bigger your daily wage
The answer to (what I'm sure is) a big question: How do I know if my pet is sick in the first place/in need of medical services?
There are a few different ways.
1.] A random even befell you and one or more of your pets. You will have it posted on your registration page once you have created one. Members are put into a randomizer and chosen every few days for something to happen to them. Sometimes it will be vague "Uh-oh, Sparky seems to have a runny nose, maybe he should see the vet." You can choose to either heed the advice or ignore it. If ignored, be forewarned the next time you get a random even, it may not be as nice (or it may be the same thing, you never know). Or the random even can be grave, "As you are making dinner at home, Mittens runs beneath your feet, causing you to pour the scalding water in the pot upon her. If Mittens is not admitted to the ER within 4 days, she will not make it". With that last random event, if you don't admit Mittens to the ER (as that couldn't wait for an appointment for a sick visit for example) within 4 days, she will pass away, and by the realistic nature of PSOS, no longer playable here. Whether you delete her file or not is up to you, but she will no longer be able to be a pet here.
2.] Your pet is at a routine medical exam and something is found by the vet (again, at random). Further diagnostics will then be needed and it will be up to you to provide for them and it will go from there depending on whether you do or do not.
3.] You believe your pet has an issue (one you make up) and bring him/her for an exam. Depending on your pet's age/breed/spay or neuter status, history, and the symptoms you state you are seeing, that will determine what happens.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Many, many things that happen here at PSOS are randomly generated. A randomizer on my computer I put a bunch of things that "could be wrong" into picks what actually is wrong and we go from there. No one will ever be singled out on purpose; if things happen to you often, it is just a random coincidence that they do.
